Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
